Rev. Dennis D McCarty July 2005Rev. Dennis D. McCarty brings to his task broad life experience coupled with a quality theological education. His family traveled a great deal during his youth (not least because his father was blacklisted during the McCarthy witch-hunting years.) In 1972 he graduated cum laude with an honors degree in English from the University of Utah, and went on to write a series of novels published by Ballantine/Del Rey, a paperback arm of Random House.

He served in the United States Coast Guard and has worked extensively as a construction worker
(electrician,) as well as an English teacher in the Republic of Korea, where he studied Zen Buddhism.

He entered ministry in middle age, graduating in 2003 from Meadville Lombard Theological School, a Unitarian Universalist divinity school affiliated with the University of Chicago, with a Master of Divinity degree. His latest book is On War--and Covenant, an analysis of the emotional and spiritual issues behind the Iraq War.
